Minnesota Inventors Congress 49th annual event

The Minnesota Inventors Congress will be hosting its’ 49th annual event Invention EXPOsure 2006tm June 9, 10, 11, 2006, in Redwood Falls

When Carl Oja exhibited his invention, the original Quad Cane, (a four pronged cane) at the 1964 Minnesota Inventors Congress invention expo little did he know how much it would change his life. Energized, after exhibiting, Carl returned to his medical equipment business in St Paul, O-J Rental and Sales Company. “The direct feedback Carl received from the consumers was enormously important to him,” according to Mark Oja, CEO, ACTIVEAID, Inc. Their first few products were the Quad Cane, a foldable commode chair and the ACTIVEAID Stretcher. In 1967 Carl moved his family and business to Redwood Falls. He made the shift from retail to manufacturing. Another invention of his, the Rescue Board, was developed after a request from the Redwood Falls Fire Department. New ideas and new products have kept this progressive company moving forward. Currently, they employ 38 people and have an annual payroll of $1.33MM. When people ask if there are any success stories from exhibitors at the annual expo, this example clearly explains the positive impact inventors have on their local economy.

The Minnesota Inventors Congress will be hosting its’ 49th annual event – Invention EXPOsure 2006tm – June 9, 10, 11, 2006, in Redwood Falls. As a non-profit organization the MIC has provided an opportunity for inventors to test market their idea and get that direct public feedback Carl Oja valued. Over the past 48 years over 4,500 inventors have displayed their inventions. Many of them have started businesses or worked with manufacturers to get their product into the marketplace.

Inventors who have exhibited at the oldest annual invention convention leave with a better understanding about whether there is a market for their product and the necessary steps to develop a successful invention.
